Technical Services

Technical Services include library operations that involve the selection, acquisition, and processing of materials before they are made available to users.
Two major functions under Technical Services are Acquisitions and Cataloguing.

Acquisition

Building the book collection is a shared responsibility between the library and faculty members.
The library runs a regular program for selecting and acquiring new materials.
Faculty members help select books and resources, especially in their field of expertise.
The library creates policies and procedures to guide the selection and acquisition process.

Cataloguing

Processing of newly acquired materials is essential to prepare them for public use. This involves both digital and manual procedures to properly identify and organize each item in the collection.

The Librarian makes the bibliographic entry and assigns subject headings and call numbers through the Library Management System (LMS).
Manual processing includes placing book properties such as the book pocket, call number label, date due slip, and color code.
Newly acquired books are released for circulation.
Books are displayed on the new arrival shelves for 1 week.
